Welcome to 2024 – Year 9
at Newgate Sandy Shores Campground

First of all we want to thank all of our members and customers for making our seasons a huge success. Our goal for this year is to continue to improve our facilities at Newgate Sandy Shores to ensure that we are one of the best rustic campgrounds at Lake Koocanusa. Our guiding principals to achieve this goal are:

  1. Safety for you and your family
  2. Protection of the special natural setting ensuring that you will enjoy the surroundings today and for future generations
  3. Security – ensuring your quiet enjoyment of our campground and surrounding area
  4. Keeping Newgate Sandy Shores Campground a FUN place to make memories

Over the last few years we have:

  • Renovated the Linklater General Store; ice cream shop – groceries
  • Added a propane dispensary
  • Added additional showers and washrooms
  • Improved the front entry and added a Land Office (registration area)
  • Improved the roads
  • Improved the campsites to accommodate larger RVs
  • Added a waste management / recycle center
  • Added additional Port-a-Potties
  • Implemented a water and sani service
  • Improved the boat launch – now said to be one of the best on the lake!

All of this would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work by our staff … a big THANKS to all of our happy camper staff! Whether you have camped at our campground before, or you are looking for a new special place to take your family, you need to consider Newgate Sandy Shores Campground and all that Lake Koocanusa has to offer.

Our membership packages are geared to families and every package is designed to take into consideration both time and financial capacity. Check them out. We guarantee that you won’t be disappointed! Our Membership programs give Members options to reserve weeks in weekly, yearly & 3 year terms. We continue to strive to accommodate site preference as much as possible but during the peak season – July & August – the choice may be limited. We will assure you, though, that there is not a “bad” site in the campground … all sites are close to the sandiest beaches around the Koocanusa.

Our vision for the campground is to maintain it as a quaint, rustic campground with quality facilities and services. Our staff will ensure that you have a peaceful safe stay at our campground … please let us know how we can make your stay even more enjoyable!

See you at the Lake!

Welcome to endless sunshine, the longest beach on Lake Koocanusa, warm clean water, no mosquitos; making memories with loved ones and friends. Stress melts away as you play endless water sports, hike, fish, delight in countless wildlife sightings, sing around the campfire and put life into perspective under a canopy of stars.

Peace, tranquility, nature, the smell of the trees, we very much enjoy the natural environment; the low disturbance development – the care that went in to keeping the place as natural as possible while providing serviced lots. Days like when we were out on the lake and it was like glass! and saw only 2 other boats in 20 km of lake – that’s what we’re talkin’ ’bout!. And then the very next day, enjoying a quad ride up to the top of Mount Fitzpatrick.

Lake Koocanusa is a hidden paradise. We searched many RV sites before and nothing compares to the beauty, tranquility and design of sites. The owners are hands on; they are there to help you if you have any questions or concerns. From swimming in the crystal blue water, sunning on the sandy beach, boating, hiking, ATV’ing, visiting with other campers or just relaxing, Discover Lake Koocanusa has it all. We just love it!!

Well…we really, really love it at Lake Koocanusa! Having a “spot at the lake” has been so good for our family to spend time together – both on the water and at our site. The peacefulness and quietness slows us down. The non powered activities such as running, biking, walking/hiking and kayaking are superb – not to mention the hours that we log on the lake in our boat! And another huge bonus is the people that we have met – many with similar interests as us!
